Reading director of football Nicky Hammond has revealed The Royals have a 'guaranteed option' to purchase both Peter Mate and Andre Bikey if the young defenders impress this season.
Upon their promotion to The Premiership Steve Coppell's side recruited the two stoppers on loan, with Bikey joining from Lokomotiv Moscow and Mate arriving from Hungarian outfit Debrecen.
Both players have started just one game to date, but Hammond says the club have hopes of grooming them into regular first team performers.
Indeed The Royals can bring both players to The Madejski Stadium on permanent deals should they wish to do so.
"Peter and Andre are young international players with their whole careers in front of them. They're physically strong, and hungry to prove themselves in The Premiership," Hammond told the club's official website.
"They are the type of signings this club has been built on.
"They're only going to get better, and it's up to us to create the environment to help them become the next Sonko and Doyle.
"They're good deals for the club. If the players do well then we've got a guaranteed option to buy."
