Coppell concern at Kitson injury

Steve Coppell is becoming concerned by Dave Kitson's slow recovery from injury.

Reading manager Steve Coppell admits he is becoming increasingly concerned by striker Dave Kitson's slow recovery from a knee problem.

Kitson picked up the injury in The Royals' opening day win over Middlesbrough in August.

Coppell had hoped to have the 26-year-old back for the game against Manchester City earlier this month but his recovery has taken longer than expected.

The Reading boss has now confirmed he will not be able to call upon the former Cambridge United striker for another few weeks, with a possible return penned in for October 14 against Chelsea.

"Realistically we're looking at after the international break," Coppell told the club's official website.

"It's going slowly, and that is a concern. We had expected more progress.

"The doctor who has been treating him has been away.

"He's had three injections, he's got one more to come, I think that will be the last and we hope for a response from it.

"We're not looking at surgery, time will heal it."
