Dave Kitson is set to miss Reading's game against Manchester City on Monday as he continues to struggle with a knee injury.
The 26-year-old picked up the knock during The Royals' Premiership opener against Middlesbrough and has been sidelined since.
Kitson had hoped to return to action in Monday's clash at the Madejski Stadium but looks set to sit the game out.
The former Cambridge United striker is still struggling to move comfortably and is unlikely to be risked by manager Steve Coppell.
"My knee is giving me a problem when I go from right to left," Kitson told the Reading Evening Post.
"It is exactly the same as it was the last time I did it. It is not painful, but it's a really uncomfortable feeling and I know it is not right."
Coppell will, however, be able to call upon the services of Glen Little and Ibrahima Sonko against Stuart Pearce's side.
Little has recovered from a calf injury, while Sonko returns after serving his suspension following his red card against Aston Villa.
