Reading have agreed a deal with Brentford for defender Sam Sodje.
The Premiership new boys will pay an initial £350,000 for the 27-year-old centre half, once he has agreed personal terms.
Sodje, who has only been playing in the Football League since 2004, is now undergoing a medical at The Madejski Stadium.
"Sam is a very athletic defender and at 27 years of age he is coming into the best years of career," director of football Nick Hammond told the club's website.
"Like many players who join the professional game at a late stage, he has a real hunger to succeed.
"He will be a good addition to our squad and provides strong cover and competition to the central defensive positions, but the purchase also allows us to continue to pursue the other targets we have identified."
