Leroy Lita's season is almost certainly over after it was confirmed that he has broken his ankle.
The England Under-21 star fell awkwardly during Reading's 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday and was immediately rushed to hospital.
Initially a leg break was feared, but it has now been confirmed that it was Lita's ankle that gave way.
"He has broken his ankle, but I've not seen any X-rays to be able to say too much more than that. We need to liase with orthopedic surgeons back home," Reading physio Jon Fearn told the club's website.
"When I first went on to treat him I thought he had broken the tibia, which is the main shin bone, and that was bearing in mind the bone bruising he has had this season.
"It looks it is just the fibula bone which is broken. That's the bone outside the ankle and not as severe. It's not as bad as my first gut reaction.
"Unfortunately I think his season is over. Even at the best case scenario the bone would take six to eight weeks to heal, and then he needs to start running and strengthening after that."
