Diamonds take a pair

Rushden & Diamonds made two new signings before the close of the January transfer window.

The Nene Park club have snapped up Crystal Palace striker Tyrone Berry for an undisclosed fee, while Reading defender Peter Castle arrives on a free transfer.

Berry (pictured) has signed a deal until the summer of 2007 with Barry Hunter's side - with an option to extend the contract for a further season beyond that.

Teenage defender Castle has signed a deal until the end of the season with the Football League's bottom club.

Both players initially joined on loan in January before committing their futures to Rushden on Tuesday.

The pair are joined by teenage midfielder Tony Stokes, who has extended his loan for the rest of the campaign from Premiership side West Ham United.

"These three young players have had a great impact on the team and we are pleased to have secured them for the rest of this season's campaign," Hunter told Rushden's official website.

"As for Tyrone, I am delighted that we have been able to achieve his transfer from Crystal Palace and I am sure that he will continue to successfully develop his playing talents here at Nene Park."
