Championship leaders Reading have signed Bristol City defender Scott Golbourne.

The 17-year-old prospect has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at the Madejski Stadium after the two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee.

It is a transfer which has excited Royals chairman John Madejski who admitted manager Steve Coppell has been a long-term admirer of the England youth international.

"We're delighted that Scott has signed," said Madejski. "We have been tracking him for the best part of 12 months and he is an exciting young talent.

"We hope he can be a part of things here for a long time, and we believe he has a bright future in the game."

Director of football Nick Hammond is equally pleased and is looking forward to the player fulfilling his potential at Reading.

"Scott fits perfectly in terms of the type of player we want here," said Hammond.

"He is talented, has a great mentality and is one we have high hopes for. He's got a long way to go but we believe he can help push us forward."

Golbourne made 15 appearances for The Robins and will begin his Royals career in a reserve team match against Millwall on Wednesday.
