Reading picked up a fine 1-0 win against Norwich at Carrow Road.Reading picked up a fine 1-0 win against Norwich at Carrow Road.
A solitary goal from James Harper was enough to seal victory, with Dean Ashton missing a penalty at the close to the dismay of an already disgruntled Norwich crowd.
Ashton had looked bright through the early stages, and was inches away from connecting with Jim Brennan's fifth minute corner.
Bobby Convey fired narrowly wide on 26, whilst Robert Green saved well from Glen Little soon after.
Kevin Lisbie had missed a chance in the opening half and he drew a wonderful save from Marcus Hahnemann early in the second rendered no less impressive by the fact the whistle had been blown for a foul.
With 60 minutes gone Reading took the lead when Kevin Doyle crossed for Harper who made no mistake after his original effort had been saved.
Ashton nearly got a leveller when his header was cleared off the line by Ibrahima Sonko, but the best chance came when Calum Davenport was felled by Convey and a penalty awarded.
Ashton stepped up but dragged his shot wide to ensure it was The Royals that picked up a victory.
