Lita brace sinks Preston

Leroy Lita scored twice as Reading comfortably overcame Preston.

Leroy Lita continued his impressive start to the season, hitting a brace as Reading cruised past Preston at Deepdale.

The £1 million man broke the deadlock 11 minutes before half-time, latching onto a Bobby Convey pass to smash the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

The goal lit up an uninspirational first half, which only produced a Convey free kick to otherwise raise the heartbeat.

Convey was a constant thorn in Preston's side, and it was no surprise that he was involved in Lita's second goal, just 17 seconds after the re-start.

Convey's long ball saw Lita dart in behind the Preston defence to slide the ball home.

The goal prompted Preston to take more chances in order to find a way back into the game, but it was once again Convey who had the most telling impact.

The midfielder's pass found Nicky Shorey down the left, and the winger picked out Glen Little who made no mistake from close range.

North End did rally with efforts from Richard Cresswell, Danny Dichio and Graham Alexander, but it was all in vain as Reading moved up to fourth.
