Reading have completed a double swoop for John Oster and Chris Makin.
Reading have signed Wales international winger John Oster and also completed the capture of defender Chris Makin.Oster, 26, was a free agent having departed Sunderland at the end of last season when his contract expired.
He had loan spells at both Burnley and Leeds last term but failed to settle at either club and will now be hoping to get his career back on track at The Madejski Stadium having had a trial at Millwall last week.
"John is a very talented footballer who can play on either wing or in a more advanced central position," Reading director of football Nicky Hammond told the club's official website.
"His signature adds further quality and depth to our midfield and gives John a great opportunity to become an important player here.
"We are very pleased to bring him here."
Like Oster, Makin has agreed a one-year deal and will sign soon after successfully coming through his medical.
"Chris has now fully recovered from the illness that delayed the completion of his signature, and we are delighted to secure his services," Hammond continued.
"He is a vastly experienced player who will offer excellent competition for both full back positions, and greatly enhances our defensive options."
Royals chairman John Madejski expressed his delight at the double capture and believes the club are now well-placed to mount a serious challenge for promotion this term.
"These are two players with proven Premiership ability who will add experience and depth to our squad," he added.
"There is no doubt that we have been successful in greatly strengthening our squad over the summer months, and we are now in a good position to launch another bid for promotion as we approach the beginning of the new season."
Meanwhile, Reading midfielder Simieon Howell has joined Conference club Forest Green Rovers on a six-month loan, while the club have extended the trial of former Arsenal trainee Eric Obinna Chukwunyelu.
Fellow triallist Rodrigue Boisfer has left the club, however, after Reading opted not to take him on loan from Italian club Genoa.
AFC Wimbledon's Bradley Drake and Brentford's Luke Muldowney have also left The Royals after unsuccessful trials.
