OXFORD UNITED are considering whether or not to sign Stuart Balmer from Oldham after he impressed during a trial.

Balmer turned out during the reserve game with Leyton Orient, and impressed despite The U`s going down to a 2-1 defeat.

Oxford boss Ian Atkins has previously admitted he would like to bring in an experienced defender, and Balmer`s profile fits the bill.

Balmer is firmly out of favour at Boundary Park, and a move could be sanctioned in the near future.

The former Charlton man has only recently finished a loan spell at Scunthorpe, where he played six league games, so fitness will not be problem for the 33-year-old.

Meanwhile, defender Adrian Viveash has returned to local rivals Reading after completing his second loan spell with The U's while defender Sam Ricketts has extended his loan for a further month with Conference side Nuneaton Borough last week.
