JAMIE CURETON scored for the second match running and Darius Henderson got a second as Reading strolled to a 2-0 victory at Wycombe Wanderers, to go six points clear at the top of Division Two.
The match started 15 minutes late, as crowd congestion at Adams Park delayed proceedings.
After a 0-0 first half, Cureton struck mid-way through the second half to give the league leaders a 1-0 lead. Henderson sealed the points for Alan Pardew's side in the last minute as Reading edge closer towards promotion.
Second-place Brighton failed to keep pace as they could only draw 1-1 at local rivals Bournemouth. Derek Holmes put The Cherries in front but Albion equalised a minute later through Paul Brooker.
Bristol City moved into third place with a 1-0 win over Peterborough United at Ashton Gate. Tony Thorpe scored the winner for The Robins, as Danny Wilson's side closed the gap on second-place Brighton to four points.
Stoke remain one point behind Bristol City, after a 4-0 demolition of crisis club Bury at the Britannia Stadium. Two goals by Chris Iwelumo and a goal each by Jurgen Vandeurzen and Arnar Gunnlaugsson kept The Potters very much in the promotion race.
Brentford slip back in the table after a 3-2 defeat away at Oldham Athletic. Two goals by Ben Burgess were not enough as The Latics got two goals by Allan Smart and David Eyres penalty to move the Boundary Park side up to seventh place.
Wrexham drew 1-1 with Tranmere at the Racecourse Ground. Lee Trundle put the Welsh side in front before Stuart Barlow equalised for Tranmere.
QPR salvaged a point at Loftus Road, after a 1-1draw against improved Wigan. Canadian international Jason DeVos scored for the away side but Kevin Gallen equalised in the last minute to earn each side a point.
A Jamie Forrester strike gave strugglers Northampton an important 1-0 victory over Port Vale at the Sixfields Stadium.
Colchester drew for the second match in a row as they finished 1-1 at Notts County. Alan White scored for Colchester but The Magpies equalised through Danny Allsopp.
Swindon got goals by Guiliano Grazioli and Alan Reeves to beat Chesterfield 2-1 at the County Ground. Glynn Hurst scored for The Spireities.
Cambridge remain at the bottom of the table, after Blackpool scored a convincing 3-0 victory at the Abbey Stadium. A Richard Walker brace and a third goal by John O'Kane gave The Seasiders victory and pulled them further out of trouble in Division Two.
The match between Huddersfield and Cardiff at the McAlpine Stadium was postponed.
