READING have moved to solve their goalkeeping crisis by snapping up Charlton shot-stopper Ben Roberts.

The 26-year-old has signed a one-month loan deal with the club and will replace regular custodian Phil Whitehead (pictured), who is injured, and Marcus Hahnemann, who returned to Fulham following his month-long stay at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals were being linked with a move for Roberts' team mate, Sasa Ilic, but plumped for the former Middlesbrough keeper instead and he will link up with John Salako, who is also on-loan from The Addicks.

"Ben should be with us to train tomorrow, and should be involved on Saturday," Reading coach Kevin Dillon said.

Roberts played in two Cup finals during his time on Teesside, but was on the losing side on both occasions.

He was also in goal when Roberto di Matteo recorded the fastest ever FA Cup final goal against Boro at Wembley in 1997.
