ROYALS TAKE FOUR ON TRIAL

READING boss Alan Pardew has taken four players on trial, and seems intent on bolstering his promotion-chasing squad.

The four players in question are Craig Etherington of West Ham, Nicky Shorey of Leyton Orient and Charlton pair Kemal Izzet and Anthony Allman.

Whether anything will come of the trials is not yet clear, with Pardew merely saying: "It is a chance to have a look at some good young players."

One person who will not be moving to the Madejski Stadium straight away is Dundee United`s former Southampton and Darlington ace Neil Heaney, who has picked up an ankle injury and Pardew will wait until he returns to fitness before making a further enquiry.
