Transfer news: Crystal Palace will not send Paddy McCarthy out on loan

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has rubbished exit reports regarding Paddy McCarthy, with nobody leaving on loan until after a Capital One Cup clash with Newcastle United.

It has been suggested that club captain McCarthy will be allowed to move on in search of regular game time.

The 31-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Selhurst Park and is said to be interesting Bolton Wanderers.

Warnock, though, has no intention of sanctioning a switch at the present time.

I’m sure one or two will be leaving on loan after the Newcastle game. But I want to see them all really if I can in what promises to be a really good game.

He said in the Croydon Advertiser: “It’s the first I’ve heard about it – I read about it just now.

“I’ve had a couple of Championship clubs enquire about Paddy on loan.

“There aren’t going to be a shortage of takers for people like that.”

It is not just McCarthy that is being blocked from heading for the exits, with Warnock reluctant to enter into any loan discussions until Palace have locked horns with Newcastle on Wednesday.

He added: “I’m sure one or two will be leaving on loan after the Newcastle game. But I want to see them all really if I can in what promises to be a really good game.

“We can lend them out for three months but have them back after 28 days.

“And with the international breaks in October and November, they’re only going to miss three or four games and then we can have them back at a minute’s notice.

“At the same time they can keep them fit by playing, so I think it’s a good thing we can do this from now until January.

“If we need them back after a month they are then match-fit ready. It’s hard when you’re not playing week in, week out to keep that sharpness.”
