Mackay delighted to secure services of Mason and Gestede

Joe Mason and Rudy Gestede have agreed contract extensions with Cardiff to keep them at the club for the long-term future. The forward pair joined the Bluebirds last summer and have played important roles in a successful campaign for Malky Mackay's side, who are on the verge of securing a play-off spot having reached the Carling Cup final in February. Mason, 20, has scored 12 times in all competitions since moving from Plymouth for £250,000, while 23-year-old former Metz striker Gestede has chipped in with three goals having been used largely as a substitute. "We are delighted to have secured the services of Rudy Gestede and Joe Mason to longer term contracts, which is exciting news for the club," Mackay told the club's official website. "Both players joined us in the summer as promising young talents we had identified and they have gone on to demonstrate that on the pitch. "I think it's fair to say that both have exceeded expectations so far, so it was only right that they were rewarded for their efforts. "They also represent significant assets for the club so it is a sensible step to secure their services."
