Owen Coyle remains optimistic that Bolton can avoid relegation this season despite languishing at the bottom of the table.
The Trotters have lost their last three games and face another difficult task this weekend when they visit league leaders Manchester City.
But Coyle believes his side have what it takes to beat the drop.
He told the
Daily Mail: "I think we will stay up. I really do. And I think the club will be in an unbelievable position of strength from which to kick on.
"But in football you have to have mental strength. If you feel sorry for yourself you are in the wrong game. You will be swallowed up."
Responsible
As a player, Coyle spent his only time in England with Bolton and thus knows how much the club means to the fans.
He added: "As a manager you are responsible for the players, the club and the whole town.
"Those people work hard and then come and watch the team. They want it to be right. I recognise that. I have an understanding of what it means to them.
"But I also think that they know what we are doing here. They have seen the quick fixes of the past but have recognised that we have had to draw a line in the sand and say that - for the financial security of the club - it has to be done in a different way now.
"I was charged with that responsibility when I came here and that is what I will do."
Millions
The difference in financial approach will be all the more apparent when Bolton visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, but Coyle maintains a sense of perspective.
"Some people in football, if they win they think they are Barcelona and if they lose they think they are the worst team in the world," he said.
"If I go toe to toe with Manchester City and lose I can cope. They have spent £300million while I am in profit here. I am not a manager who has spent £30 or £40million.
"I wish I could sit here with £50m and go and spend it because I believe I have a good eye for a player. But you have to make the best of the hand you are dealt.
"The elite clubs can cherry-pick the best players. Bolton can't do that."
