Owen Coyle: Bolton boss wants more from his side after they lost again

Sky Bet

Owen Coyle believes his Bolton side failed to show their real ability as they were beaten 2-0 by a depleted Norwich side.

The Canaries lost their central defensive pairing of Daniel Ayala and Zak Whitbread to hamstring injuries in the first half.

But goals from Andrew Surman and Anthony Pilkington after the interval swung the pendulum in the favour of the home side as they completed a league double over the Trotters.

Capable

"It feels like we never got to the levels we are capable of," Coyle told Sky Sports.

"But I take nothing away from Norwich, Paul has done a fantastic job with a good group of players, but from my part today - I think we are better than we showed."

The old adage of goals change games was clearly illustrated as both sides went in level, only for Norwich to go ahead through a fine volley from Surman after the interval.

Fleeting

Coyle added: "For fleeting moments, I thought we had some great strikes [on goal] and good saves from their goalkeeper as well, but Norwich had good chances as well.

"At the point of the goal, I felt it was quite even and I felt Norwich probably had the better of the first half.

"In the second half, they started well and I made the change and we started then to get chances, but we didn't defend well enough to keep them out, and that was the story of the game."
