Barker chastises Coke critics

Bury manager Richie Barker has urged fans to lay off on-loan Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Giles Coke.

Coke was involved in an astonishing on-field bust-up with captain Steven Schumacher over who would take a first-half penalty during last weekend's 3-2 win over Yeovil. Coke won the spot-kick and Schumacher converted, but only after the duo had to be separated by team-mates and received bookings for their troubles. A section of the Gigg Lane crowd proceeded to boo Coke for the rest of the game and Barker has pleaded for there to be no repeat during Saturday's derby visit to Rochdale. "I can see where the fans were coming from, but that's the last thing we need and the last thing Cokey needs," Barker told the Bury Times. "Yes, it's disappointing, but we need Cokey - he's a good player. I don't think he was himself in the second half and I do think that maybe it got to him a little bit."
