Australian youngster sidelined with ankle problem

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish expects midfielder Chris Herd to be sidelined for a month due to an ankle problem. The Australia Under-20 international established himself as a first-team regular prior to suffering the ligament damage in December. McLeish remains in the dark as to how long the 22-year-old will be out of action, stating it is a case of waiting and seeing.

Awkward

"Chris has got the protective boot on again and it depends how it feels when he takes it off," said McLeish. "That's going to be the key. "The last time he took it off, it was still sore. It's a ligament in his ankle. It's a kind of awkward one. "If they take the boot off and he's not got any discomfort, then it could be another month."
