Warnock urges young Aussie star to keep improving

Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock reckons rookie midfielder Chris Herd has been the club's find of the season. Now he has challenged the Aussie to keep improving and establish himself as a Premier League star. Herd, 22, has risen to prominence with a series of all-action displays at the heart of Alex McLeish's side. He was handed only his second top-flight start in an unfamiliar right-back role against Wolves in August before being switched to his favoured position. And Herd has kept his place since - impressing fans and team-mates alike.

Grounded

Former England left-back Warnock told the club's official website: "Chris is a great player. He is comfortable on the ball and wins it back really well. "The challenge is to consistently do it over the season. That's the big ask. "A lot of players come into the team and do it for four or five games. It's carrying it on for the season. "The guys have to keep him grounded and keep telling him he has to keep improving. "There's no point staying at a level - he has to prove to himself and prove to everyone that he can be better than he has played. "That's the challenge every time you step on a football field - to better yourself."
