Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has been charged by the Football Association with using abusive and/or provocative gestures following Saturday's derby defeat at Burnley.
The charge follows Lonergan's conduct towards home fans at the end of the match, which saw Preston lose 4-3 despite leading 3-1 with six minutes remaining at Turf Moor.
The 26-year-old homegrown keeper has until Monday, 20th September to respond to the charge.
Preston manager Darren Ferguson admitted a charge of improper conduct for insulting and/or abusive language and behaviour towards referee Kevin Friend in the tunnel after the game.
The case will be dealt with by a Regulatory Commission at a non-personal hearing on Thursday.
"I have apologised to the FA and also to the referee," said Ferguson.
"I'm only 38, I'm still learning myself, and I lost my temper. I know I was out of order."
