Midfielder targets immediate return to Championship
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Giles Coke has admitted to
skysports.com that anything other than automatic promotion back to the Championship could be construed as a failure.
The Owls went down to their second defeat of the season at home to Carlisle United on Saturday, just a week after surrendering their unbeaten opening to the 2010/11 campaign at Brentford.
And the 24-year-old feels that finishing in the top two places in League One this season is a minimum requirement for the Hillsborough club.
Coke said: "If we don't go up, you could say that the season would be interpreted as a massive failure.
"With absolutely no disrespect to the league and all of the clubs in it, Sheffield Wednesday are a massive outfit and should not be here.
"But we have to prove that we are good enough to go up, and with players here in the squad, we are very confident of doing that."
Competition
Wednesday remain the bookmakers' favourites for the League One title, and with it an immediate return to the Championship, but they know they'll face stiff opposition from the likes of Southampton, Huddersfield, Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic.
Coke continued: "There are some good sides here, many of whom have been Premier League teams - including us, there are five in total, I think.
"But despite Wednesday's fall from grace, we are still a huge force. Crowds still very good and the players that we've been able to bring here are excellent for this level.
"We are obviously preparing for promotion and have a team set-up for next season, but we need to make sure we get out of this league first!"
Wednesday travel to 18th-placed Plymouth Argyle on Saturday looking to regain the form that took them to the top of the table after four matches.
