Bluebirds sweat on striker's fitness

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has revealed that Michael Chopra has been sent for an X-ray on his injured ankle. The prolific frontman sustained the knock during the Bluebirds' 4-0 demolition of Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. The former Newcastle and Sunderland striker lasted just half-an-hour of the weekend encounter before being forced from the field. His wellbeing is of great importance to Cardiff, as he has been their most potent attacking weapon in recent seasons. They may have drafted in Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City, but Chopra remains an integral cog in the promotion-chasing machine. "It is his ankle," Bluebirds boss Dave Jones told the South Wales Echo. "We'll have him off for X-rays. The ankle was twisted after a poor tackle."

Treatment

Jones has also announced that Chopra is to be joined in the treatment room by defensive duo Kevin McNaughton and Darcy Blake. Jones confirmed Wales international Blake 'rolled his ankle' in the warm-up ahead of the clash with Rovers and was replaced in the starting line-up by teenager Adam Matthews. Scottish full-back McNaughton limped off after just 18 minutes after pulling up sharply with a hamstring strain and was replaced by debutant left-back Lee Naylor. The injured trio are now extremely doubtful for Cardiff's Carling Cup trip to Peterborough United on Tuesday night.
