Rafal Boguski set Poland on their way with the opener in the first minute before Smolarek netted his first of the contest on 18 minutes.
Boguski netted his second and Poland's third on 27 minutes before strikes from Robert Lewandowski (43) and Ireneusz Jelen (51) made it 5-0.
Smolarek grabbed his second on the hour with Mariusz Lewandowski getting in on the act three minutes later before Smolarek completed his hat-trick on 73 minutes.
Things got worse for San Marino when Smolarek notched his fourth nine minutes from time and Southampton forward Marek Saganowski made it 10-0 two minutes from time.
