Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson was delighted with his side's performance as they secured a 1-0 victory over high-flying Hull City at the KC Stadium, hailing goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen as one of the "best in the country".

"We're fortunate that we have one of the best goalkeepers in the country - he was marvellous."

Quotes of the week

The hosts arguably edged the first half, with Marlon King going close with an acrobatic effort, but Matt Taylor's goal five minutes after the interval handed The Trotters the lead.

Phil Brown's men continued to press for an equaliser, but Finland international Jaaskelainen pulled off a string of superb saves to deny Geovanni and King among others.

"I'm delighted with the fact that we got the result and I'm also delighted with the performance of all the players and their work rate," Megson told Sky Sports.

"Today, especially in the first half, we were on top and passed it quite well and we were disappointed to go into half-time without the lead.

"But the game's gone on and their football has become a little bit more direct. Given the amount of people that they threw up front Jussi had to come into his own and he was marvellous for us today."

On whether the shot-stopper would steal the headlines from goalscorer Taylor, Megson said: "He's going to because Hull were causing us loads of problems going from back to front very quickly and, in the main, we dealt with it.

"But when we didn't do that well enough we're fortunate that we have one of the best goalkeepers in the country - he was marvellous."

The Trotters manager was then asked how long the 33-year old could continue at the highest level, to which he replied: "He looks after himself, on the field and off the field, so he can go on for as long as he wants to as long as injuries permit.

"In 400 games I doubt he's had one above that standard. It wasn't just the saves he made; it was coming for crosses, his distribution, and he will get the headlines which is good for Jussi from our point of view."
