Trotters loan ace eyes run under Megson

Bolton Wanderers' on-loan striker Ebi Smolarek insists he has not come to English football to warm Gary Megson's bench. Megson has opted not to throw the Poland international in at the deep end following his loan switch from Primera Liga outfit Racing Santander. Smolarek was given his Premier League debut in last weekend's 3-1 home defeat by Arsenal and the 27-year-old is looking forward to regular football under Megson. "I want to play and not sit on the bench," said Smolarek. "That is what I intend to do here. "This is one of the best leagues in the world. The first weeks are always difficult as you get to know each other but I like it here."

United scalp

Bolton have an unenviable fixture against Manchester United this weekend, but Smolarek is not just going to Old Trafford to be in awe of The Red Devils. The one-time Borussia Dortmund man is good friends with compatriot Tomasz Kuszczak and the Poland ace is looking forward to getting one over his international colleague. "While it is good to be facing Manchester United, I am looking forward to beating them, not admiring the stadium," he continued. "Tomasz is a very good goalkeeper and a good friend of mine but it is possible to score against him."
