Bolton striker Heidar Helguson is facing up to seven weeks on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery.
The Iceland international joined Bolton in the summer following a transfer from Fulham, but has started only one match and been a substitute twice since signing.
Helguson will now be out of action for around two months following the operation on his ankle injury.
The 30-year-old scored in Bolton's 2-1 defeat to Fulham earlier in the season, but his lengthy lay-off is further bad news to manager Sammy Lee after his side's poor start to the season.
Bolton currently sit second bottom of the Premier League and have recorded only one win in the top-flight this season.
Meanwhile, defender Nicky Hunt is also facing an injury lay off after spraining his ankle in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Everton.
