Jussi Jaaskelainen insists Bolton Wanderers can still push for a European spot this season.

Sammy Lee's side are rooted to the bottom of the table following their opening two defeats to Newcastle United and Fulham.

Despite boss Sam Allardyce's departure to St James' Park over the summer, the Finnish keeper is convinced Bolton can turn it around.

Wanderers take on Portsmouth live on Sky Sports 1 from 12.45pm on Saturday, and Jaaskelainen knows his side must start picking up points.

"The squad is definitely stronger than it has been for a number of years and there is a real quality across every position," he told the Sun.

"The last two results are a minor blip and there is no reason why we can't turn the corner, starting at Fratton Park.

"Our objective is simple - get our first win. Once we do, we'll be up and running.

"There is no reason why we can't be among the top 10 pushing for a top six finish again. There is strength in depth and with more effort we will be back."
