Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has maintained his club's interest in Ewood Park old boy David Dunn.
Rovers appeared to be trailing Bolton in the race to sign Dunn after The Trotters agreed a fee of up to £2million with Birmingham last week.
Dunn, 27, has since undergone a Reebok Stadium medical, but Williams is adamant that Rovers remain in the chase for a player they first made an enquiry about last August.
Mark Hughes targeted midfield as an area of his squad that required strengthening during the January window and a knee injury which has already ended Steven Reid's season has heightened Rovers' need.
"We remain interested in David Dunn," said Williams. "We are unique in the Premiership as a small-town club and I think having a local lad in the side would add value.
"You cannot say having a local boy returning would increase attendances but I think the fans would value having him at Rovers.
"The question now is if we feel we want to match Birmingham's valuation. Otherwise, we will have to pass."
