Sam Allardyce remains confident that Jussi Jaaskelainen will sign a new contract at Bolton Wanderers.

Jaaskelainen still has 18 months left on his present deal and has been involved in protracted negotiations regarding an extension.

The Finland international has voiced a desire to stay at The Reebok Stadium after establishing himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in The Premiership.

His Trotters team-mate Kevin Davies revealed on Friday that he hopes Jaaskelainen will remain at the club.

Bolton boss Allardyce is also anxious for Jaaskelainen's future to be resolved after talks had seemingly stalled.

The negotiation process has been reopened and Allardyce is feeling optimistic about keeping hold of his first choice keeper.

"It is not settled yet, but we are still talking and want the matter settled sooner rather than later," said Allardyce.

"I am very confident about the outcome."
