Sam misses out on Venta

Bolton have dropped their interest in Villarreal's Javi Venta.

Villarreal have rejected an official approach from Bolton Wanderers for Spanish defender Javi Venta.

Sam Allardyce has been interested in Venta for several months, but any chance of a deal has fallen through after the Spaniards demanded a sizeable fee for the 29-year-old.

Venta signed a contract in January to keep him at the Yellow Submarines for three more years, and coach Manuel Pellegrini considers the full back an important part of his side.

Villarreal are set to embark on their first UEFA Champions League campaign, after securing a 2-1 victory over Everton in the third qualifying round first leg, and Pellegrini is desperate to keep his best players after already losing Jose Reina to Liverpool.

Director of Villarreal Jose Manuel Llaneza confirmed: "It is impossible to think of the exit of Venta without money."

It is believed that Bolton would have had to pay in the region of ‚é¼9 million for Venta.
