Bolton have reportedly sealed the signature of United States starlet Johan Smith.

The 17-year-old should link up with the club's academy for next season as Sam Allardyce continues to develop his reputation of finding young gems from across the footballing globe.

Smith was also the subject of interest from Arsenal, who are also well-known for their comprehensive scouting network and already have young Americans Daniel Karbassiyoon and Frankie Simek on their books.

Allardyce is also reportedly eyeing up Rochdale keeper Matthew Gilks as a back-up for first choice Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The 22-year-old has impressed during the League Two campaign to date, and has also been the subject of interest from Norwich.

Bolton only have Kevin Poole in reserve as it stands, and Allardyce could be looking to alleviate his squad problems in the shot-stopping department over the summer.
