Sam Allardyce is confident Vincent Candela will sign for Bolton before the close of the transfer window.

The French full back has a deal with Italian side Roma that expires in the summer, but is keen to leave in January.

His lack of first team chances at Stadio Olimpico had led to him becoming increasingly frustrated, and he is eager to take the lifeline offered to him by Bolton.

Trotters boss Allardyce says that he is confident that the deal can be concluded before the transfer window closes on Monday.

"I am confident that we will sign Vincent Candela from Roma on Monday," Allardyce told the club's website.

"In light of what has happened with Nicky Hunt, with his injury at Boundary Park, it might be a blessing in disguise that we can bring in a highly experienced full back to help out with our injuries at the back.

"I've been talking to the player for a couple of weeks now and I am pleased that we are nearly there to doing the deal.

"He hasn't played regular football this year but is eager to impress in The Premiership. I have been pleased with the lad's commitment and his eagerness to be a top player for us."
