WREXHAM are on the trail of striking duo Chris Llewellyn and Chris Armstrong.

The Second Division new boys are desperate to bolster their firepower after losing leading scorer Andy Morrell to Coventry and with Lee Trundle yet to sign a fresh contract.

Welsh forward Llewellyn is available on a free transfer after being released by Norwich City and is also wanted by Bradford City, Bristol Rovers, Leyton Orient and Swansea City.

Experienced hit-man Armstrong is seeking to get his career back on track after being offloaded by Bolton Wanderers.

The 32-year-old has been plagued by injuries for the past three seasons and made a solitary appearance for The Trotters after signing from Tottenham.

Armstrong started his professional career at Wrexham and Denis Smith is eager to entice the ex-Crystal Palace ace and Llewellyn to The Racecourse Ground.

"Both these lads have great pedigrees," the Red Dragons boss told the Wrexham Evening Leader.

"It's frightening what they could do for us. Chris Llewellyn is a really good player. They were talking about him being in the £4 million class at one stage when he was at Norwich.

"Chris Armstrong is well-known to Wrexham fans and I believe a return to the club where he first started can open up a new chapter in his playing career.

"I'm very excited about the prospects of both players coming here, although we are in competition with other clubs for them."
