STOCKPORT COUNTY boss Carlton Palmer has targeted Bolton goalkeeper Steve Banks as one of the players he wants to add to his ranks next season.

Palmer has been a long-term admirer of the shot-stopper and is keen to entice him to Edgeley Park for next term's Second Division promotion tilt.

With first choice Lee Jones struggling for fitness and Andy Dibble out-of-contract in the summer, Palmer is concerned he will be bereft of goalkeeping cover.

Though the Hatters chief is hoping to persuade Dibble to remain with the relegated First Division outfit, he has not stopped planning for the future.

"I have spoken to Steve Banks and he has said he wants to come here," said Palmer.

"But any move will depend on working out the right financial package for him.

"Lee Jones may not be fit for the start of the season. He has a shoulder injury and we aren't going to gamble with that.

"It's going to be at least five weeks before he can do any training which means we need cover in case anything happens to Andy Dibble."
