Everton club ambassador Ian Snodin has welcomed the Europa League last 32 tie against Young Boys and has confidently targeted overall victory in the competition.

The Merseysiders will travel to Switzerland for the first leg at the Stade de Suisse, which has an advanced synthetic pitch, before hosting Uli Forte's outfit a week later.

Goodison Park has hardly been a fortress for Roberto Martinez's side so far this season, with the Toffees winning only two of their seven home games in the league.

However, it's been a different story in Europe's second-tier competition where they breezed through their group unbeaten.

Snodin is not only targeting victory against the 11-time Swiss Super League winners, but overall success, which would see them gain automatic entry into next season's Champions League.

Everton need some silverware, it's been a long, long time and we're desperate to win some.

Very pleased

The former Everton player told Sky Sports: "The quality of European football throughout is difficult. There were some big, big clubs in that draw and we're looking forward to it. I'm sure all Evertonians are planning ahead to come out to Switzerland, but overall we're very pleased.

"Hopefully we can come over to Switzerland and do a reasonable job. Hopefully we can win the tie here, but also know we've got the advantage of being at Goodison in the second leg. But we know it's going to be difficult so the boys have got to go out there and perform. It's as simple as that.

"Spectators have travelled in their thousands to Lille and to Wolfsburg and the club and players are enjoying it, but first and foremost you want to win the competition. Everton need some silverware, it's been a long, long time and we're desperate to win some silverware."

The first-leg will be played on February 19, with the return fixture seven days later.
