David Moyes felt partly responsible for his side's 2-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion which saw their 100 per cent record disappear.
Everton have been hugely impressive so far this season, but their good run of form was brought to a grinding halt by West Brom, who claimed victory thanks to second-half efforts from Shane Long and Gareth McAuley.
However, Moyes admits he may have made a mistake when, at 0-0 and with an hour gone, he brought on Kevin Mirallas and went looking for the winner.
"We made changes to try and win but unfortunately that backfired on us today, maybe I made the wrong decision and should have sat back and let them come on to us, but we went looking for the goal," Moyes told
Sky Sports.
"Their goals were the difference, a counter-attack and set-piece which we didn't do well on. I thought in that 60 minutes we did all we wanted but we just could not break them down - they kept their shape well and defended well," he said.
"I thought we had a enough of the ball, just in the final third our better players didn't make things happen for us.
"We had so much of the the ball, we tried to probe but today we didn't look like we had enough to break them down."
