Everton defender Shane Duffy will replace Richard Dunne in the Republic of Ireland squad following an injury to the centre-back. Dunne sustained a fractured clavicle injury during Aston Villa's Premier League defeat by Manchester City on Sunday. Duffy will join the rest of the squad for training on February 26 with a friendly against Czech Republic three days later. The 20-year-old played representative football for Northern Ireland at age group levels before receiving a call-up to the full squad by boss Nigel Worthington. However, having failed to win his first international cap, Duffy announced in February 2010 that he would switch allegiances to the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Football Association did take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport where it was ruled that Duffy was eligible to make the switch due to close family ties in Donegal. Later on the same year Duffy played in a Republic of Ireland training match where he ruptured his hepatic artery resulting in the defender requiring life-saving surgery.
