Jelavic did not demand exit

The free-scoring Croatian, who had also been linked with his new club's derby rivals, Liverpool, and Queens Park Rangers, on Tuesday left Ibrox in a £5.5million deal.

Jelavic's transfer brought to an end months of speculation about his future, but he insists he was not actively searching an exit from Rangers.

The 26-year-old claims he only learnt of Everton's interest at the beginning of the week via his agent, however, he is glad his career is now settled.

Jelavic told a press conference broadcast on Sky Sports News: "The last two days were difficult for me. I was struggling.

New challenge

"But I am glad it is finally done and I am fully focused on Everton."

Jelavic has yet to hold in-depth talks with David Moyes, but he is aware the Everton manager will want him to become a goalscoring star.

"I know he expects a lot of me," said the former Rapid Vienna striker. "I can promise to do my best and score a lot of goals."

Jelavic also recognises the Premier League represents a new challenge, but he is relishing the opportunity after watching Everton's victory over Manchester City.

He said: "The English Premier League is the biggest in the world. For me, it is a big step forward in my career.

"I want to prove myself here and play well for the club and supporters."
