Australian to serve three-game ban

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has lost his appeal for wrongful dismissal during the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool. Cahill was sent off ten minutes from time for a late lunge on Xabi Alonso during the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park. Everton boss David Moyes felt the dismissal was harsh and the club lodged an appeal on Monday. However, The Football Association has rejected their appeal and Cahill will now be forced to serve a three-game ban. The news is a blow for Moyes as he looks to arrest Everton's slump in form, with the Toffees chief now having to make do without Cahill for forthcoming games against Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United.
