David Moyes is unaware of any proposed bid from Everton to re-sign Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park and scored twice in nine Premier League appearances.
He appeared poised for a permanent switch to Everton from Benfica before plumping for a transfer to Valencia.
However, Fernandes has struggled to make an impact at the Mestalla and his plight has prompted suggestions of another loan spell on Merseyside.
Fernandes' agent Jorge Mendes claims that a deal is in place, and the player is heading to England to undergo a medical.
Toffees boss Moyes, though, reacted with surprise when asked about a deal having been lined up for Fernandes.
"I didn't even know that," Moyes told the club's official website. "Have I? Not that I know of!"
Fernandes was released by police on Friday, having spent the night in custody following an incident at a bar.
