David Moyes has warned Yakubu Aiyegbeni not to 'switch off' if he wants to remain Everton's first-choice striker.
Yakubu has scored nine goals in 14 Premier League appearances for Everton since his big-money move from Middlesbrough in August.
But he was similarly prolific for Boro last season before failing to score in his final 14 games for the club.
Moyes has been delighted with the Nigerian's form and is anxious for the 25-year-old to maintain his standards.
"We have good competition for places in attack, so if he switches off we've got players waiting to come in," said Moyes in The Sun.
"It's the same with all the players. Competition for places will hopefully keep them all on their toes.
"But if Yakubu does as well in the second half of the season as he has in the first we'll be more than delighted."
