Victor Anichebe could see his disappointment at not making Nigeria's African Cup of Nations squad softened by playing in the Olympics next year.
Coach Samson Siasia has revealed he plans to contact Anichebe shortly, to offer the promising 19-year-old a chance to represent Nigeria in Beijing.
Anichebe had hoped to get the call for the Ghana event, but may now have to content himself with a trip to Beijing.
Siasia told Kick Off magazine: "I am extending an olive branch to him. Starting from the Under-23 team is not a bad idea and an avenue for him.
"I know he is disappointed right now but Berti Vogts has so many quality attackers in the team.
"Anichebe should just keep his head up because disappointment sometimes is a blessing in disguise.
"He is a young man and we all know that he is a great player. So if he wants to come and join my team, the door is open."
