Nigeria boss happy to compromise

Nigeria manager Berti Vogts has revealed that he may allow English-based players to represent their clubs in the third round of the FA Cup. Yakubu Ayegbeni, Joseph Yobo, Dickson Etuhu, John Obi Mikel, Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka and Obafemi Martins have all been called upon to represent their country at next month's African Cup of Nations. The majority of the Nigeria squad will join up at their training camp on 4th January; however Vogts has explained that English-based players might be available for the FA Cup fixtures on the weekend of 5th January. "Although I would love to have all my players in camp for the mandatory 14 days, I will give concessions to those in England," Vogts said in the Daily Mail. "But 6th January all the players have to be there." On Saturday 5th January, Everton take on Oldham, Sunderland face Wigan, Portsmouth travel to Ipswich and Chelsea host QPR. On Sunday 6th January, Newcastle go head-to-head with Championship side Stoke.
