Everton expect to be without Leighton Baines for a fortnight due to a thigh injury.

Baines suffered the problem against Fulham on Saturday and was replaced by Phil Jagielka just 23 minutes into the 3-0 win.

The full-back has undergone scans on the problem, with Everton relieved it is not a serious injury.

Head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website: "He has hurt his hamstring.

Intensive treatment

"We are going to give him intensive treatment to try and get him back for the Christmas fixtures."

Baines had recently missed six games due to an ankle injury and his outing against Fulham was only his second since returning to fitness.

He will now sit out the midweek Carling Cup tie with West Ham United, and this coming weekend's Premier League clash against the same opponents.

The former Wigan defender is also likely to be sidelined for the final Uefa Cup group game against AZ Alkmaar, but could be back for the 23rd December visit to champions Manchester United.
