Everton have rubbished rumours that Andy Johnson is set to leave the club.
Recent press reports have linked Johnson, who made an £8.6million switch to Everton from Crystal Palace in 2006, with a move away from Goodison Park in the January transfer window.
It was suggested West Ham were interested in the services of Johnson, but Everton assistant manager Alan Irvine insists the England striker will not be leaving.
"I was very surprised with reports about Andy in the papers," Irvine told Everton's official website.
"We have no intention of selling Andy Johnson, he is a really important player for us. It is not even something we would consider."
Johnson, who has scored only once this season, is currently recovering from ankle surgery and Irvine says that he is progressing well.
"Andy Johnson is doing more and more ball work now and hopefully by this time next week he will be training with us," added Irvine.
"Once he is training with us then he will be available for selection."
