Everton midfielder aims to avoid future injuries

Tim Cahill is hoping an adjustment to his boots will lead to no further metatarsal injuries. The Everton midfielder originally suffered a broken foot against Sheffield United in March and aggravated the problem against Werder Bremen in a pre-season friendly. He made his first appearance of the campaign against Larissa on Thursday and scored in the 3-1 Uefa Cup group win. The Australian admits he has modified his footwear following his injury troubles and is hoping it will do the trick.

Protection

"I've just put a bit more protection on them to help me change my running style and transfer the weight away from my fifth metatarsal," said Cahill. "They seem to be doing well, but only time will tell. "They have had to stiffen the sole and shaved the studs right down. "The grounds these days are really hard, even at Goodison, so I'm just trying to find a happy medium."
