Wigan boss Chris Hutchings has revealed the club have rejected an offer from Everton for Leighton Baines.

The England U21 defender turned down a move to Sunderland earlier this month after the Latics accepted their £6million offer for the player and Hutchings would like Baines to remain at the JJB Stadium.

"We turned down a bid from Everton of £4million and a player, who they rate at around £2million," Hutchings said.

"I have a very good relationship with Leighton and we'd like him to stay but we can't stop speculation or other clubs making offers."

Hutchings also confirmed that Wigan would be wanting a similar fee to the one agreed with the Black Cats if Baines was to exit the club.

"It wouldn't be very good for business if we took less than that, so we'll be looking for that."
