Phil Neville has hailed Andrew Johnson as 'the best goalscorer in English football'.
Johnson is set to play alongside Wayne Rooney in England's Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel on Saturday and Neville expects his Everton team-mate to rise to the occasion.
"Saturday will be no problem for AJ. He is in great form," he praised. "When he was at Crystal Palace, everyone thought he was a good goalscorer.
"He has stepped up a level, he has gone to a bigger club and has taken everything on board and answered every question that has been put his way in terms of his performances.
"In an atmosphere like we can expect on Saturday, you need goalscorers on the pitch and he is our best one at the moment.
"He is the best one in English football at the moment."
Neville could also come into the England side for injured brother Gary at right-back, and he is looking forward to the challenge.
"To be honest, if it means you are going to be playing for England, you will play in any position," he said.
"It will be a blow to us not to have a player of Gary's class and experience in such a big game but that's football and you have to get on with it.
"I have had plenty of involvement with England under the current management and will do my best to do a good job if called upon in Israel."
Neville believes England will start as favourites against Israel but accepts there will have to be a marked improvement on recent performances.
"If we play to our potential hopefully there won't be a problem but every player has to play to their maximum," he warned.
"It is an away game. You play away games in the Champions League and even against the so-called lower countries they are always difficult games.
"This will be no different."
